Az. Agr. Longanesi Daniele

It was here in a bird snare, where migratory birds were hunted from the hut, that a vine was found clinging to an oak tree and used to attract the birds.

In 1913 Antonio Longanesi acquired the current property of the Azienda Agricola Longanesi, situated in Boncellino, a hamlet next to Bagnacavallo. It was a small, one-storey home overlooking a structure with an oven, laundry, and pig sty.
It was here in a bird snare, where migratory birds were hunted from the hut, that a vine was found clinging to an oak tree and used to attract the birds.
Given the rustic nature of the plant and its notable resistance of the clusters of small, thick-skinned grapes to fungal diseases, the family tried producing some wine at home, as did all the farmers in the zone.
Surprisingly, the wine was good and reached 14°, making it a success among friends and leading to the diffusion of this grape variety in the zone.
During the 1930s the management of the company was passed on to the son, Aldo, who enlarged the house and the stall and built a small tool shed. Then in 1956 he decided to plant the first vineyard of Longanesi grapes.
In 1999 the cantina became one of the founding members of the “Il Bagnacavallo” consortium for the protection and promotion of the territory and began producing wine commercially.
Currently the production amounts to about 15,000 bottles of wine, divided among four different categories: Burson with a blue and black label; Decimello, a white passito obtained from Trebbiano Romagnolo grapes; and Anemo, a red passito obtained from Longanesi grapes and other local aromatic varieties.
One part of the terrain is still used for cultivating fruit orchards, with a small production of Stanley and Angeleno plums.
The company can be found in leading dining and wine guides.
