Faenza is a beautiful city of art of Roman origin, which in the Renaissance period was famous for the production of excellent chinaware that was exported to many European countries. The town has acquired its current aspect over many centuries during which beautiful buildings were built in strong Renaissance and neoclassical style.

VISIT FAENZA

The beautiful Piazza del Popolo is the heart of the town. It is framed by two elegant porticoes, one on the side of Palazzo Comunale, the town hall, and the other on the opposite side of Palazzo del Podestà. The square is then closed by the Civic clock tower.
Next to Piazza del Popolo there is Piazza della Libertà where you can see a Renaissance Cathedral (Giuliano da Maiano, 1474) dedicated to St. Peter Apostle and a Monumental fountain designed by Domenico Paganelli (17th cent.).

Church of Commenda
Elegant example of Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century, which was the seat of the Order of the Knights of Malta. Inside you can see beautiful 15th-century frescoes.

International Museum of Ceramics
Founded on the occasion of the Faenza international exhibition of 1908, it is one of the most important and complete museums of ceramics in the world. It contains collections of any century and continent and houses prestigious exhibitions, including exhibitions of contemporary art.
The Museum contains many modern ceramic works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Cocteau, Lèger and other famous 20th-century artists.

Palazzo Milzetti
It is the most significant example of neoclassical architecture and decoration (1792 – 1805) in a town rich in buildings dating back to that artistic and historical period. With its beautiful rooms it constitutes the National museum of the neoclassical period in Romagna.

Civic Art Gallery
It houses a wide range of Faenza and Italian paintings dating back from the 13th to the 19th century, including works by Donatello, M. Palmezzano, C. Cignani, D. Dossi and other masters.

Piazza della Molinella
Small and elegant cobbled square overlooked by the prestigious Teatro comunale Masini dating back to the neoclassical period (1780 – 1788).
