The city of mosaics

Ravenna offers different paths full of emotions: walk along the city looking for UNESCO’s Monuments -it is the city that has more places registered on this list! -, explore hidden corners with street art works, follow Dante’s history otherwise visit a Mosaic handcraft and the collection of contemporary mosaics at the City Museum MAR.

To discover them with new eyes the advice is to take advantage of the paths “Mosaico di notte“, which throughout the summer allow to visit the city monuments under the moonlight.

The visits start at 21: there is enought time to enjoy a good dinner. Definitely the queen of the table is the mussel of Marina di Ravenna, protagonist in the menus: gratinéed, marinated and stew…some of the most typical preparations of this wild clam harvested in the Adriatic Sea are  certainly perfect with a nice glass of Albana or Trebbiano di Romagna.

Less known, but equally appetizing at the table, are the fruits of the Ravenna pine forest, which, depending on the different seasons, offers products that can conquer the palate. Among these stand out the wild asparagus of the Pineta of  San Vitale, which gives its name to the homonymous variety of asparagus. While from the Pinewood of Classe come fine pine nuts, used to embellish savoury and sweet dishes.
